It’s the year 2034. Classrooms are not just four walls around you, but a gateway to the whole universe. This is what we call “Boundless Classrooms”, places where every day offers new ways to learn.
Thanks to amazing technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR), learning feels different. These aren’t just fancy gadgets we talk about; they are part of every lesson. You connect with your digital assistant at Registration class and it tells you what your day looks like, and what your next lesson is. With a VR Headset,
you could have French sitting in a cafe in Paris or, through AI, interview Winston Churchill about how he felt in the hours before Dunkirk.

In school, every pupil has their own learning path – so there are no top sets or bottom sets. AI systems, which we sometimes think of as smart assistants, adjust what you learn based on how you learn best. If you find something tricky, the AI adapts to help you understand in a way that makes sense just for you. It’s like having a teacher for every subject, ready to help you whenever you need it.
Not only do we connect with the places we learn about, but we also connect with people all over the world. Our classrooms are linked with other classrooms in far-off places, so sometimes our group projects are with students from another continent. We get to see their world, share ours, and work together as if we were sitting at the same table.

Teachers in 2034 are more like guides or coaches. They use technology to take care of the boring stuff like marking, so they can spend more time helping us learn in ways that are interesting. They make sure we understand not just how to use technology, but how to use it safely and ethically, respecting everyone’s rights and privacy.
Education now is not just about learning facts; it’s about understanding the world and thinking creatively. Lessons are designed to help us solve real-world problems, using everything from mathematics to art. This helps us prepare not just for exams, but for college, Uni and work.

Making sure AI is safe to use is a top priority for schools. As one head teacher explained to parents, “AI is as ethical as its developer. All AI technology we buy for this school is developed with classroom staff and our partner tech companies and the views of pupils and parents will always be taken into account when developing, piloting and using new AI technology in school”.
Parents play a big part too. They’re more involved in our learning, using technology to see what we’re studying and to help us learn at home. It’s a team effort, and it’s all about making sure we have the right skills and are ready for the future.

It’s a subject that divides people in lots of ways!
